Workshop attendance aids for early-career registrants:

Selection process:

The UCA Department of Biomedicine, Biotechnology and Public Health has awarded funding for 3 workshop attendance aids for early-career registrants.
The grant consists of an amount of 600€, equivalent to the registration fee (early-bird fee) and accommodation in a shared room for the 3 nights.

Conditions of the aid:
- They must be participants registered for the conference at an early stage of their career (predoctoral or less than 4 years after obtaining their Ph.D.) who have not obtained other grants for registration and accommodation during the conference.
- They cannot be from the research groups of the conference organizers or from the city where the conference is organized.
- Applicants must send a letter of application before April 28, 2023. The letter should indicate that they are predoctoral or have less than 4 years since receiving their Ph.D. degree. The letter must indicate that they have not received other support for workshop registration and accommodation. The letter must include the signature of the director of the research group indicating their support.
- Awardees must attend the conference to receive the funds, which will be transferred directly to them a few days after the workshop (depending on the University's processing).

Selection process:

A limited number of FEBS Youth Travel Funds (YTF) Awards were available to support participation of early-career scientists in this event. These funds will cover the registration fee (including costs of event meals, and shared accommodation in a twin room), up to a maximum of 800 EUR per person.  The selection of applicants to receive FEBS YTF awards will be carried out by the Course Organizers on the basis of scientific quality and originality, and approved by the FEBS Treasury Office according to the FEBS YTF eligibility criteria (also shown below).

Application and notification of outcome:

Please check the guidance in the Applications section of the website. Note that you will need to apply as a 'Travel Grant Applicant' and upload specific supporting documents.
Deadline for FEBS YTF Award applcations in this workshop is February 21st , 2023.  

Applicants selected by the Course Organizers will be notified by March 1st 2023 and receive a FEBS Treasury YTF form, to be returned to the FEBS Treasury for approval approximately 8 weeks before the event's start date.

Eligibility criteria for applicants travelling from the FEBS area of Europe and neighbouring regions:

  • The applicant should be not older than 35, should be registered as a PhD student at an institute of higher learning in a country where there is a FEBS Constituent Society or should be a postdoctoral scientist within five years of having completed a PhD thesis, working in a country where there is a FEBS Constituent Society;
  • The applicant must be a member of a FEBS Constituent Society and provide a valid certificate of membership (for FEBS Constituent Societies, see the Our Members section of the FEBS website);
  • The applicant should not have received a grant from the Youth Travel Fund to attend a FEBS Course / Workshop in the current year or previous year, nor a Bursary to attend the FEBS Congress in the current year, nor a grant to attend the FEBS Young Scientists’ Forum in the current year;
  • The applicant cannot be a resident of the country hosting the event;
  • For awards with travel funding, only travel within the FEBS area from the applicant’s current country of residence to the country hosting the FEBS event is supported;
  • Young scientists from the Organizers’ laboratories are not eligible for FEBS YTF awards.

For YTF awardees from outside the FEBS area:

  • The applicant should not be older than 35, should be registered as a PhD student at an institute of higher learning in a country where there is an IUBMB-adhering body but not a FEBS Constituent Society, or should be a postdoctoral scientist within five years of having completed a PhD thesis, working in a country where there is an IUBMB-adhering body but not a FEBS Constituent Society;
  • The applicant must be a member of an IUBMB-related society and provide a valid certificate of membership;
  • The applicant should not have received a grant from the Youth Travel Fund to attend a FEBS Course / Workshop in the current year or previous year, nor a Bursary to attend the FEBS Congress in the current year, nor a grant to attend the FEBS Young Scientists’ Forum in the current year;
  • Awards will only be made to support travel from the applicant’s current country of residence to the country hosting the FEBS event;
  • Young scientists from the Organizers’ laboratories are not eligible for FEBS YTF awards.

Other travel grants

The organizers, in function of available sponsorship, plan to institute additional travel grant support. Additional information will be provided in due course.
